Snowdrops at Welford Park (Home of Great British Bake Off)
Today our walk is a special one! Welford Park is a country house and estate in the village of Welford in the English county of Berkshire, situated 5.2 miles northwest of Newbury and 10.9 miles south of Wantage. Whilst of some historical significance, the estate is perhaps best known for its displays of snowdrops in early Spring, and for being the location of The Great British Bake Off since 2014.
The church of Welford St Gregory, one of only two existing round-tower churches in Berkshire, is located adjacent to the house. The various chalk streams that make up the River Lambourn flow through the grounds.
We start at the car park at Welford Park and undertake a 3 mile walk around the countryside around the park then enter the park for the snowdrop walk. There is a tea shop on site for us to have a cuppa afterwards. http://www.welfordpark.co.uk/snowdrops – there is a £8 (£6 concession) charge to enter the park to view the snowdrops. This should be paid on the day at the kisok as we enter the park. I have priced the extra walk at £6 (£4.80 for pre-pay members and FREE for direct debit members).
This is NOT a technique walk but an enjoyable walk to end the week. It is social and fun.
Suitable for all levels as faster walkers can walk on ahead and then loop back while others walk at their own pace.
Some gentle hills may be included.
